Video editing can be very time-consuming, tedious, and downright hard.
I’m glad more people know this now, and there are all different kinds of “creators” around now (not just spicy webwhores) to complain about it / inform the masses who would not otherwise be aware.
And where do all of these creators complain about it the most? YouTube! And I am so grateful for that. Because YouTube is also the main reason it is so much easier nowadays to do hard, time-consuming and tedious complicated things (like edit videos) because there are a bazillion tutorials and instructional videos there explaining how to do stuff, and just making it easier to refresh your memory about the stuff you learned but forgot.
Today I am editing a video. It’s not even a super-complicated one, but I need to be able to do a variety of things I can’t do (or are too messy & imprecise/frustrating to do) using Canva or phone apps, so … Adobe Premiere Pro. And it’s been awhile since I’ve used it for these things, so I had to look up shortcuts. Like these three essentials:
- Hold down CTRL key & drag to INSERT CLIP between clips / move everything down your timeline
- CTRL+K to cut
- SHIFT+DELETE to ripple delete clip(s) (without leaving a big gap in your timeline)
Even with it being so much easier now to get help editing video when you’re home alone with no pros to call on, I am also super grateful for having done so much learning when everything was slower and more difficult. I’m glad I have so much learning behind me, and that even though I forget a lot of stuff I learn, I know how much is possible and it is much easier to RElearn something than to learn it from scratch, and to have some of the language (or at least an idea of what you want to do and the awareness that it is almost certainly possible) to search for and find guidance. Usually without even needing to post about it (like on a message board in the old days) and just sit there and cross your fingers WAITING hoping someone with a clue and willingness to spend time answering you will respond.
